Since 2004 an annual nationwide Action Day Sustainable Washing/Dishwashing [Bundesweiter Aktionstag Nachhaltiges (Ab-)Waschen] has been taking place on 10 May, under the patronage of various outstanding persons.
On the most recent four Action Days, members of the German housewives' league Deutschen Hausfrauen-Bundes (DHB) and the German organization of rural women Deutschen LandFrauenverbandes (dlv) organized - in public spaces and schools throughout Germany - their individual events connected with washing, dishwashing and cleaning..
A FORUM WASCHEN jury awarded money prizes and special prizes for events based on particularly creative and effective ideas. Additionally, those who sent in personal reports on their event initiatives received € 100 for time and expenses.
The year 2006 saw not only 76 individual events but also a School Action Day with a learning circle on washing, involving 26 schools.
